On Thursday, July 14th from 1-2pm Eastern, Disability.gov will air a live “Virtual” Town Hall meeting to introduce top White House advisors on disability policy. If you have questions about disability-related subjects or issue areas, please submit them online by 6pm on Wednesday, July 13th. On Wednesday, July 6th, four families will join The Arc’s CEO Peter Berns and Public Policy Director Marty Ford in a meeting with key staff at the White House on Medicaid. The purpose of the meeting is for the White House to hear how Medicaid cuts would affect each family’s circumstances as President Obama continues to engage in deficit reduction talks.

The call will feature U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, as well as other Administration personnel. On March 11 the White House and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host an event to demonstrate the Obama administration’s commitment to emergency preparedness for people with disabilities. FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate and the Deputy Assistant to the President for Homeland Security on the National Security Staff, Heidi Avery, will be in attendance. During the event, among other activities, FEMA and the National Disability Rights Network will sign a Memorandum of Understanding describing how they will work together.
The White House Disability Group is hosting monthly calls to provide updates on various disability issues as well as to introduce persons who work on disability issues in the federal government. The White House Disability Group will host monthly conference calls to update the public on disability-related issues and to introduce Administration and other federal government staff who work on disability issues. The first call was held on Friday, December 3 and featured Alexa Posny, the Assistant Secretary of Education for Special Education and Judy Heumann, Special Advisor on International Disability Rights for the Department of State. The President hosts a meeting at the White House on Tuesday with the House and Senate majority and minority leadership. This meeting is expected to set the tone of any possible bipartisanship for the lame duck session and potentially for the new 112th Congress.
