Bill to Provide Relief Payments Introduced

Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY) introduced H.R. 2711, the Supporting Our Seniors COLA Act. In years where there is no cost-of-living (COLA) increase, the bill would provide a payment to recipients of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, railroad retirement benefits, and veterans disability compensation or pension benefits. In the first year without a COLA, the payment would be $250; in any subsequent, consecutive years without a COLA, the payment would be $50. The bill was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means and the Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure, and Veterans’ Affairs.
