Administration Offers Health Care Cuts as Part of Negotiations

The Senate canceled its planned district work period for the week of July 4th to continue negotiations with the White House on deficit reduction.  Press reports indicate that the Obama Administration officials have offered to cut tens of billions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid in exchange for increases in tax revenues from Republican negotiators.   Negotiations continue to be fluid and closely held.  President Obama has embraced the goal of reducing deficits by a total of $4 trillion over 12 years.
