House Hearing on Medicare/Medicaid Dual Eligibility

Last Tuesday, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing regarding people who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. The purpose of the hearing was to explore efforts to improve coordination between the two programs and improve care. There are approximately 9 million people who are dually eligible and they tend to have multiple impairments and health and long term services needs. The witnesses included the Director of the Federal Coordinated Health Care Office at CMS and several representatives from the Texas Star Plus program, the North Carolina medical homes program, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the National PACE Association, who testified about their recommendations for care and the results and successes of their specific programs and policies for this population.
