Coordinating Benefits for People Who are Eligible for Both Medicare and Medicaid

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a request for information seeking ways to coordinate benefits for people who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Nearly 5.5 million low-income seniors and 3.4 million younger persons with disabilities are enrolled in both the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Typically, they have multiple, chronic conditions and require high levels of medical care. Some of the regulations that govern the two programs conflict with each other, causing delays, frequent hospitalizations and other burdens for recipients. The deadline for comments is July 11th. For additional information, see the Request for Comment in the Federal Register by visiting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website.
