Paid Sick Leave Legislation Introduced

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representative Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) have introduced legislation to allow workers to earn paid sick leave so that they can address their own health needs and the health needs of their families. The Healthy Families Act requires businesses with 15 or more employees to allow workers to earn up to 56 hours, or 7 days, of paid sick leave per year. Workers can use paid sick time for their own health needs, including absences for medical appointments as well as absences resulting from a physical or mental illness, injury, or medical condition.  Workers can also use paid sick time to care for a family member with comparable needs. For more information, read the legislation in the House (H.R. 1876) and in the Senate (S. 984).
