DOJ Reaches Agreement with Kansas City on Local Government Accessibility

The Department of Justice (DOJ) reached an agreement with the city of Independence, Kansas under its Project Civic Access to improve access to all aspects of civic life for people with disabilities. The city will make its programs, buildings, and services accessible to people with disabilities as required under Title II (state and local governments) of the Americans with Disabilities Act by making sure parking, routes into the buildings, entrances, service areas and counters, restrooms, public telephones, and other facilities are accessible. Independence will ensure equal, integrated access to emergency management for individuals with disabilities, including emergency preparedness, notification, evacuation, sheltering, response, clean up, and recovery.
