U.S. Congress – Sets priorities for remainder of lame duck session

The Congress returns to work today after a weeklong Thanksgiving recess. The duration of the remainder of the lame duck session is uncertain but will likely last two to three weeks. Top priority items likely to be debated are the tax cuts set to expire in December 31, the continuation of Fiscal Year 2011 federal funding, the so-called “Doc Fix” to delay major cuts to Medicare physician reimbursements, possible votes on recommendations from the President’s deficit reduction commission, and legislation on food safety, child nutrition and extending unemployment benefits.
